BIM tools are so sophisticated that most architects are not willing to apply them in designing which leading BIM tools can not be widely and successfully applied in China. The aim of this study is to enhance the workable attributes for designing when using BIM tools. Which specific areas you think can be studied and what kind of research methods can be applied in this study? I have some thoughts on both, but I would like to hear from you according to your research expertise. Thank you.
Hi Song, as you understand, multiple areas are interesting when applying BIM.
I would focus on asset data management, e.g. how to pass the physical asset information to the digital environment without any flaws.
Another area to me is data exchange, e.g. what tools are best to read different file formats to improve the workflows and the quality of 3D models and their related information.
Regarding the research method, the mixed-method approach will help you to process and understand different contexts.

Thanks Roberto for your reply. Your proposal actually roots in BIM itself, which dealing with data. I understand that a BIM's strong trait is that it has information data within 3D model. Currently almost all the BIM applications are related to this characteristics. However I have another side of thinking on BIM which is to study the designer design activities when using BIM tools in design thinking process.
The work you are planning is very interesting.
As a suggestion, the first step: check the most important questions by the designers; second stage to verify the project requirements with the market; and the third step would be to make a correlation between the items listed by the designers and the buildings (projects carried out), perhaps, to verify which design attributes generate the greatest increase in real estate prices.
