Store in alpine regions - pastures or forests - more water?

There is a new study that in the Alps of Austria/Italy pastures are better to prevent climate change by drought.

The synopsis is:

If alpine pastures are not cultivated, the area is overgrown and new forests are formed. In view of climate change, this could lead to even more drought.

The project was published by Markus Schermer (Institute for Sociology) and Ulrich Strasser (Institute for Geography) of the University of Innsbruck in their inter- and transdisciplinary project STELLA.

How are the opinions of the world scientics here in Researchgate to this thesis - or are they still too unsubstantiated facts?
