My research group is collecting data using a spirometer that only analyzes exhalation and records data on FVC, FEV1, and other parameters.

The command to perform the test is as follows: Inhale maximally, place the spirometer in your mouth, and exhale explosively. Continue exhaling until you hear a beep (approximately 2 seconds).

The problem is that, in some cases, the FVC and FEV1 values are recorded as the same. Our criteria require different FVC and FEV1 values, at least 2 seconds of exhalation, or the presence of a plateau in a volume-time (V-T) chart.

The volunteers report that they cannot sustain exhalation for 2 seconds without obstructing the flow (exhaling less air to extend the duration), even though they are healthy and have no lung disease.

Can anyone help me?
