I am working on the vibration of the plates using IGA. I am using the Reddy's Higher order theory for the kinematics of the plate. As the displacement field of the Reddy's theory has the first order derivative of the 'w0', so the strain vector has the second order derivative of 'w0'. So I found the second order derivative of the NURBS function as per the procedure provided in "The NURBS book".
When I am modeling the plate using FSDT (i.e Mindlin plate), I am getting the solution (i.e the natural frequency of the plate). However, when I am trying to model the plate in Reddy's theory (i.e HSDT) my frequencies are coming out to be complex number. Can anybody please give me some insight, where I may have the problem.. Any help appreciated...
I think the problem resulted from the method used to calculate integrals in the material matrix. The real numbers are only needed once you obtain the material matrix. If you obtain final solutions (i.e. frequencies) as complex numbers, it is very likely that the material matrix is computed based on both real and imagine parts. You can check the material matrix and that would be as complex numbers. There is no relation between the mentioned problem and IGA.
