According to me there is no comparable substitute for SPSS

I agree with Harry Barton Essel. Also, MATLAB is very good platform for some statistical work.

yes,SPSS is user friendly and has some advantages for those who are not conversant with programming.'R' is unique in the sense it is available at free of cost.

SPSS is a proprietary tool..instead i go with R.. an open source tool as comparable with SPSS..
