Do anyone know, will sodium chloride crystals shine in the UV light during crystallography? In my crystallography Project, i see Crystals. But i have sodium chloride 100 mM, Tris 10 mM (pH8,0) in buffer. So i wonder if it is protein crystal or sodium chloride crystal.
Two simple ways to check this:
1. Do an elemental analysis
2. Do an XRD experiment, NaCl is cubic Fm3m
Any optical phenomena can be misleading since they can be cause by tiny impurities

Concerning the polarizing microscope check, if you are looking at crystals in those plastic crystallization plates (which are partially polarizing), the plastic can disturb the observation of light extintion/birefringence.
