Sodium alginate crosslinking by metal cations, calcium and ruthenium?

Sodium alginate is usually crosslinked by Ca2+. How does other metal cations crosslink the sodium alginate? I see some papers does this research and a lot other metal cations does crosslink sodium alginate. I am doing an experiment using ruthenium, and I find sodium alginate somewhat crosslinked by Ru2+. So, how is your sodium alginate working with metal cations? And what the metal cations are? Need help or answers ASAP. Thanks

At equivalent concentrations, we've observed that efficacy of crosslinking to be:

Ca2+ > Fe3+ > Mg2+
