Dear Chris William Callaghan many thanks for your insights on the topic of societal engagement. Yes, I agree that with your views that "democratisation of science is a movement t.. to ensure that those affected by biomedical research have a say in it." In theory it is easy to say but in practice many researchers including those in the biomedical research domain have not fully embraced to involve and engage the consumers and users of their research. I believe the movement of societal engagement is gaining momentum but it needs support from all key stakeholders including researchers, sponsors, funders, users and consumers. However, we still need to identify, develop and apply the effective ways and means for sustainable societal engagement in research, especially biomedical research.
