France is examining how to protect children vis-a-vis the Social Media by requiring parents approval for children under 16, do you think this is a positive or a negative step and why please.?
In my view, it is important to protect children from the media by requiring parents approval for children under 16. But it is more important to increase the media literacy of the children, so that they can protect themselves as well.
Before social media, parents had been excising their rights to approve/disapprove the expansion of a child's social circle. Those rights were stripped away by the absence of certain regulations in cyber space. Hence, France's plan would return that right back to the parents. Definitely a positive step.
