Subject: Request for Site Approval to Conduct Research
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally request permission to conduct a research study at your facility titled: “Medical Providers’ Perceptions and Challenges in Activating Patients in Pain Management Settings: A Phenomenological Study in Southern California.”
This qualitative study aims to explore the lived experiences and challenges healthcare providers face when implementing patient activation strategies in chronic pain management. The research follows a phenomenological framework and has been or will be reviewed by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure all ethical standards are upheld.
Participation Details:
· 6–10 voluntary participants (MDs, DOs, NPs, PAs, or other pain management specialists)
· 30–45 minute interviews conducted in person or via secure video conference
· Full confidentiality ensured; no names or facility identifiers will be used without explicit written permission
· Data used solely for academic research purposes
Benefits of Participation: Participation offers both individual and institutional advantages. Pain specialists may be eligible to cite their involvement as a scholarly contribution in support of professional development or continuing medical education (CME), depending on their certifying boards’ policies. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on and articulate their clinical strategies, which often leads to deeper self-awareness and professional growth.
For the participating facility, involvement demonstrates a commitment to academic advancement, evidence-based practice, and innovation in pain management. Insights from the study may contribute to improving patient-provider communication, increasing patient engagement, and reducing reliance on opioid-based therapies.
On a broader scale, this research can support future policy development, training initiatives, and interdisciplinary pain care models—all aimed at enhancing outcomes for chronic pain patients. By identifying barriers and successful activation strategies, the study can inform systemic improvements across the pain management field in Southern California and beyond.
If you require supporting materials (e.g., IRB approval, consent forms, interview protocol, or university affiliation letter), I would be pleased to provide them. I also welcome the opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with your team and contribute meaningfully to your work in pain care.
Sincerely, Katey Ryerson Doctoral Candidate, School of Business and Economics National University [email protected] | (909) 380-1693
