Because of no limits or real understanding of limits in Media, world is changing into a virtual and actual disaster. There are positive effects also but the disaster is greater. Views please.
I think media is not only responsible for damaging the world's peace, its the mechanism and control which runs media in achieving one's own objectives. It could be one group, agency, or govt. This is similar to Propaganda or Persuasion techniques of manipulating same messages for different groups. Disseminating information but with entirely different intentions may cause harm to peace.
I don’t think media can be held responsible for negative role in world peace. The whole international scenario of war and conflicts is more a political game but sometimes media is used as a tool of propaganda by powerful groups to gain their objectives. And media need to understand their power and act responsibly because they cannot start conflict but they can play role in escalating or de-escalating a conflict situation. There is also a huge debate regarding this in academic and media circles that either media can play part in peace or it should move towards peace journalism rather than conflict journalism.
I think media cant be held responsible for anything. History knows enough cases when disaster was caused by determined orator givin and on broader scaleg speeches on some free place allowing gathering of group large enough. And sometimes even without that. Media can do it only faster and on broader scale.
What it really needs is to have people willing to stop thinking and to accept broadcasted opinion without any check.
Other media, Facebook for instance, can serve as counterforce allowing people resistant to brainwashing to organize themselves and to act quickly enough to block caused hysteria sooner than it starts to be really dangerous.
The same for conflict journalism. It is successful because people are more interested in conflicts than in peace.
Nice example might be so called "reality shows". They tend to be more and more conflictuous and it is because of interest, carefully measured by people meters.
Tomy Patzelt..I do not think so that Media cannot be held responsible for anything. I feel Media is responsible for the current situation of the world peace... By Media i mean the media content and the rapid transformation of information technology...
World was a different place when this much of Media was not there...No doubt Media has played a constructive role also but it is responsible for the Ethical disaster in the world which in turn leads to overall harm to the world's peace.
