Dear all,

I'm trying to simulate what happens to a steel pipe when a given amount of water freezes. The water freezes from the top end. Please see the attachment.

I was hoping to use the "expansion" option from Abaqus to find how much stress the water is exerting on the walls of the pipe when it freezes. In order to do that Abaqus is asking for the E-modulus and Poisson ratio. But again those are properties for solids and not fluids.

Further, I tried using Abaqus Explicit to describe the behavior of water. But in this case, Abaqus is not allowing to use the "expansion" option. Without the expansion option, I don't know what pressure the water/ice will apply on the walls of the pipe.

Any suggestion? Any material or paper you could recommend is greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Robert
