Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your health, especially your digestive system. Probiotics are often called "good" or "helpful" bacteria because they help keep your gut healthy. Should we supplement diets with probiotics?
In my experience as a Dietitian, supplementation with probiotics is needed only when the patient is not following a good diet and/or during/after the administration of antibiotics or any other medication that could alter the microbiota. Supplementation has been useful in the treatment of gut inflammation related diseases. Every patient is different, each of them needs to be carefully evaluated to see if it will benefit from probiotics.
