The glaciers have been disappearing from Glacier National Park in Montana and adjoining Waterton National Park in Canada. In 1850, Glacier is said to have had 150 glaciers; in 2006 there were 27.
Suppose that the glaciers' melting would have no appreciable effect on the environment except that they would no longer exist. Would conservationists still be justified in trying to save the glaciers?
Glaciers all around the world are melting, mostly because of climate change. Scientists can analyze the gases to determine carbon dioxide and methane levels, inspect pollen or pollutants caught in the ice, or find out how much snow fell in any given year. However, with global warming occurring at an unnatural rate, glaciers are melting at a faster rate and not being restored. The only way to slow rapid glacial melting is to slow global warming.

Too late to try to save them! It can' the done!
We can try to limit their melting by limiting the use of fossil fuels, but even if we all try, it would be too late to reverse the melting process.
This will not happen though as I regularly meet people who claim that climate change has happened before and stop worrying (the oil industry's propagated lie).
