Working on a research project based on survey data where most of the responses / variables are 5-point Likert scale type. Any opinion with proper reference would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Liton, 5-point likert scale is regarded as derived interval scale (look at the research methods books for that!). There fore you can run only logistic regression if you satisfy the required assumptions of logistic regression. Finally, any statistical software packages like SPSS, minitab, SAS or R can do that easily.
Hi. I would use R because of its greater power. See the material on ordered logistic regression including examples and a case study in the attachment. Best wishes, David
Sanjeet, the examples provided in the link are very useful and easy to follow as I have some experience in R environment. Much appreciated.
Sabri, I presume that the data retrieved from a 5-point Likert scale variable can be used as an ordinal variable with ranking from 0 (no opinion) to the highest agreed opinion (4), or perhaps one can recode the variable to represent the order without excluding any option / scale. In that case, I can use that variable as a dependent variable in a ordinal logistic regression? Am I right?
I would prefer SPSS because it is very powerful as well as relatively easy software, number of tutorials / demos available on YouTube, that's why very easy in learning
