There is no easy answer to this question, and it's a matter of personal opinion to some extent, but I would like to hear thoughts from the RG community on aiming for several smaller papers versus one larger, more impressive paper.
I have been working on developing some bio-informatic tools for co-evolution analysis: I am actively working on applying these to a host of different projects.
I am considering submitting an Application note to the journal Bioinformatics, describing the software tools I developed, but I am unsure if I should hold them back to be featured in a paper that includes some biological discoveries.
For what it is worth, I am leaning towards publishing the smaller application note paper (2 pages). I am concerned with how this publication will be viewed on my CV, especially as weighed for employment, promotion, and grants (I am an Assistant Professor at a Community College).

In my experience getting something out there to show your expertise in the area and get meaningful feedback from other experts in the field is the most useful way to make progress and avoid dead ends. Your work sounds really interesting.

It seems that all to often, given the pressures to publish and the tendency of institutional administrators to count publications rather than examining them carefully for their thoroughness and quality, investigators are driven to publish in "least publishable units" (LPUs). Having said this, if you have a useful new method in bioinformatics that could be published as a technical note, this could be of value.

I advise you to run your program on medical applications and different samples and publish it with bigger article.
if you choose to submit the smaller application note paper (2 pages) your work will be unseen well . i suggest to cooperate with bioinformatic researchers to accomplish big study and work on it to be published in journal.
