I have complete my masters focusing on Drug design and Vaccine Design In Silico. I am highly interested in developing bioinformatic tools (Web Based) for my own use, for example my own docking software/ web tools.
I have learned python as a beginner. How may I progress?? What programming language should I emphasize?? Do I need to learn HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, Jquery, Javascript, Node, React, MySQL, Php, MongoDB etc for full stack web development?? Please share your insights, thanks.
Congratulation on working though the Masters course !! Is it still your passion or are you tempted by the sparking lights of IT ? No worries either way but best career advice is always follow your enthusiasm ( as long as it pays the bills). These days most scientists have to learn the language of computer interactions be that databases/Excel/ Mathematica or basic web page creation using one of the many existing tools but we don't have to be experts in full stack development. Figure out where your value is and concentrate on building value there. Define the tool function boundaries well and cooperate with the next expert in the delivery chain. Like the Author/Editor/Printer/bookseller team you don't have to do everything but you can if you want.
Your would not need to completely master the web development tool but I would suggest to go for the python as it will help you in pursuing the data science which will help you in your career. You will always need to deal with the data.
I'd keep going with Python and JupyterLab or the like. NumPy, SciPy, Pandas and Matplotlib are some libraries to add to your skills. I think these would be way more useful in your work as a bioinformatician.
focused on your project development, create idea and deploy your work in python Flask and DJANGO framework which is most using web development framework in these days.
If you would like to develop tools in the future. Then there are many platforms apart from the web, like Cytsocape hub.
But websites are still one of the most convenient ways for end users. Therefore, if you want to run some tools for your personal use, I suggest trying environments like jupyter-notebook for Python. Otherwise, for web development only, you may first learn HTML and design one simple frontend page, then try applying some CSS like Flex, etc. Then you should go for some js like form validation etc.
Once you start to get a comfortable approach in all these, then you can start deploying your backend scripts written in your most convenient language and try handling the requests using AJAX request.
Later, you may try switching to single-page application development like React or Vue.
