Eggshell contain Caco3, at high temp it decompose into cao and CO2. So, should I cover the eggshell containing crucible while calcination? If yes, then how Co2 will be come out during decomposition?
Dear Ameer, thanks for asking this interesting technical question. I would say that covering the crucible during calcination of eggshells is not necessary, but it doesn't hurt either. Just make sure that the crucible is only loosely covered so that the produced CO2 can escape. Both the CaCO3 and the product CaO are stable in air. Only please keep in mind that the resulting CaO will easily react with water under formation of Ca(OH)2. Thus you should keep your product in a dry environment for further uses.
