Compassion fatigue is driving nurses away from the bedside or the profession all together. Many studies have indicated that compassion fatigue have negatively impacted the quality of care that is being delivered by healthcare providers as a whole. In an effort to maintain a standard of producing nurses who will be capable of delivering quality care the institutions that are charged with the responsibility of educating these young professionals should be responsible and offer a mandatory compassion fatigue seminar/class to not only introduce but prepare them for the real world. Too many nurses and healthcare providers are not equipt post graduation to deal with the stress of being a caregiver. It is important that this issue is addressed.
