I am looking to develop a asset or standard of living index (based on weightage) for remote rural community. I find the current scales to be urban based.. please recommend
Easier to answer if we knew where you are and what is availble. The US Census bureau has a fair range of indicators. In general, however, there are a number of attributes in any study, rural or urban. These include not only income but more importantly its relation to daily needs (the food basket, for example), health care (in the US is the person insured, or not), education (levels of particpant), etc. In rural areas you might ask if the persn owns home/farm/property, rents, or works for, etc. But I'd suggest that in this you look first at what is now being surveyed and analyzed and then modify for your region, if needed.
I have conducted a survey in geographically remote region in rural India (tribal population) .. I would like to develop a standard of living index based on household assets..
From what I understand, a standard of living index for a remote rural region may include indicators of whether basic needs are met. For example food insecurity measures such as how many meals you eat a day or protein sources eaten in a day, as well as how far do you need to go to get water, do you have electricity, how stable is your house to withstand normal weather and daily wear, how many changes of clothes does each person have. Those are a few ideas. Possibly how far to medical facilities, schools, roads, and other community centers.
