I am confused regarding the conductivity of a low-grade Manganese sample. It consists of more than Manganese mineral alongwith haematite,Goethite,Clay etc.I want to SEM and EDAX of the sample.For this, i want to know the properties i need to imply for it like what voltage,Working distance,Spot size ,Magnification i have to maintain in the SEM machine.And what coating to be used.
Are you trying to convince us to click on suspicious link ( sample*It )? Remove it, then you may get answers.
For an unknown sample 15keV is often a good voltage for starting analysis.
The working distance depends on the geometry of your SEM EDX system. Ask the supervisor which the optimum working distance is for your instrument. If you have a mineral I would use a large spot size (or scanning over a large area) to integrate over the different phases in your sample. Or make EDX mapping to make laterally resolved analysis of composition. - Probably you need a coating to make a conductive surface since minerals will not be conductive. I prefer carbon, because in makes no disturbing peaks in the interesting part of the spectrum and it makes low absorption of the interesting X-rays.
