The SEM resulted in nurse work satisfaction having a negative direct effect on NCQ and nurse staffing a positive direct effect on nurse work satisfaction (γ = -.26 and γ= .22; p < .05, respectively). However, NPE did not directly effect NCQ, burnout, and nurse work satisfaction (γ = -.07, γ= .01, γ= .01; p >.05 respectively). In addition, nurse staffing did not effect NCQ and burnout (γ = -.03, γ= .01, p > .05) respectively (Figure 2) and our testing explained 12% of the variance about NCQ.
