I'm performing facies analysis on a sedimentary succession by use of word processors and digital illustration software. I feel like the process could be drastically enhanced by using a specialized software with a user-friendly interface allowing for easy and instantaneous selection of intervals of a sedimentary log for assigning facies, allocating descriptions of specific beds or sections, etc.
Does this exist? I guess something like this is probably used in the industry. I've checked out logging software but without interesting features for facies analysis.

Thank you for your recommendations! A friend has recommended Wellcad to me, it seems like a more complete tool with regards to the actual sedimentary log. I have no need of the additional features for core characterization

Strata 5 log is also a good tool for sedimentological analysis and I think its an open source software (you can get it online). There is also sedlog and log plot as earlier mentioned. However, after making use of these, I have some special preference for Strata 5. Its not too complicated and has youtube videos tutorials for ease of learning. Best wishes in your endeavours
