Centrally funded universities and institutes, as well as state universities, publish their research in UGC Care List journals, while agriculture institutes publish in NAAS-rated journals.
UGC Care List journals
The UGC-CARE List has only TWO groups.
UGC-CARE List Group I Journals found qualified through UGC-CARE protocols.
UGC-CARE List Group II Journals indexed in globally recognized databases (Web of Science and Scopus)
NAAS rating journals
The National Academy of Agricultural Sciences initiated a process of rating/scoring of scientific research journals with the primary objective to bring uniformity in the evaluation of publications. The score has been developed for use of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
NAAS score of research journals, the Academy has classified them into the following two categories:-
Category I: Those journals where Thompson Reuters Impact Factor is available, the scores are assigned as 6.00 + Impact Factor with capping on 20.00.
Category II: Those journals where Thompson Reuters Impact Factor is not available, the marks are assigned on the basis of information provided by the Publishers in a prescribed proforma and also evaluation of scientific contents of the journals.
Both the UGC Care-listed journals and the NAAS Scored journals can be considered credible sources of scientific information in India. The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India has a list of approved journals known as the "UGC-CARE List" which includes high-quality and reliable journals across various disciplines. The National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) has a journal rating system that assigns scores to agricultural science journals based on various criteria such as international visibility, editorial quality, and overall impact.
Ultimately, the choice of which journals are more realistic depends on the specific field of research and the individual researcher's needs and preferences. Some researchers might prefer the UGC-CARE list as it is a comprehensive list of reputable journals across a wide range of disciplines, while others might prefer the NAAS Scored journals if their research is specifically focused on agricultural science.
