Indian cities (even villages) are facing acute problem of garbage management. Even Indian PM picked up the broom to address this big issue. Yet the range of garbage, flying plastic bags, choking drains, animals dying of congestion etc is so common. Large amount of funds are being pumped into countrywide cleanliness drive yet the results are far from expected. Is it true that we Indians love cleanliness but do not dislike the garbage? I need your comments in abundance. I want to explore it in every aspect. Kindly contribute.
Rajesh Verma, you need to do a questionnaire (get it ethically approved by the Ethical Community in India) with different itemized variables on garbage in India's environment. Ask the population as to why they tend not to care for garbage around them but tend to keep their internal home living clean? Once you have collected the data, then you can do a rigorous research on the topic of your interest.
Excellent topic Rajesh, and admire the holistic way you are looking at it. It is more Socio-cultural than Psycho-cultural.
I would suggest study of some success stories, to understand how behavioual change happened, and how the change was sustained. I see cities like Bhopal & Vizag have made big change. These two I have personally seen, but there will certainly be several more.

There could be some general answers like traditional practice, lack of knowledge, infrastructure, etc. and ignorance and many such. But this is not scientific way of evidence generation. A study may be designed with proper methodology. But yes, attributes for the study may be decided expert consultation.

a nice idea if we could involve the masses through awareness educational talks on TV or the use of social media to propagate flyers carrying cartoons from environmentalist specialists who carry out education campaigns
