The media contain all 20 amino acids and both have the same strain of bacteria on them. However one strain is growing considerably slower that the other after 3 hours of observation. It suddenly began to speed up again but still at a reduced rate. Why is this?
hello, I have a question, how do you know that this is the same strain? if it is from the same cultivate, the spreading of bacteria may be different. if it is spore forming bacteria, this consider to be a reason.
Was the physiological history of the two strains the same, or was one from an old plate and the other from a new one so that you had very different lag phases until growth started.
You could easily have a physiological mutation, but I would also check to see that it is the same species and not a contaminant.

If the strains are of same age and from the same plates, spreading the bacteria correctly could be an issue. Even if you think you have spread them equally, think at microscopic level, different counts may have been seeded.
You have to believe me on this, we follow the protocols, they don't..... :)
