how safe is it for routine ambulation if a patient has a femoral central line.? when would be safe enough to ambulate a pt. with a femoral central line
I am personally not in favour of femoral central lines as chronic vascular access, even though I have seen some patients with such catheters ambulating. This should be for me one of the very last resort when a patient does not have any other option of vascular access site and PD is not possible. According to a colleague who has many patients in this situation, it is a tragedy for many (infection and thrombosis) and survival for a few.
I agree with Jose C D Filho. It should be the last otpion. For my concern, we do have some patients with femoral catheter but it is very challenging regarding of infection, thrombosis, accidentally withdraw risks. And our patients usually use public trnasportation not well organised
