The International Erosion Control Association has a course and workbook that spoke to this subject In their erosion and sediment Control certification course. It also has information on sizing ponds or sediment basins to fit circumstances, and need to address them in maintenance to ensure function as long as they are needed.

Consider the filter fabric fences described in Sediment from a small ephemeral gully in my Researchgate. They have been effective also at monitoring sediment from small wildfire affected catchments.

Consult on internet, US Forest Service and State Forestry Water Quality BMPs as potentially suitable or adjustable practices for construction sites. Best to pick an area with similar climate, topography, etc. Ponds can fail if not designed well, and baffles and other features can be added to ponds to increase flow distance and retention opportunity.

As you probably realize, the USLE addresses soil loss, not necessarily sediment delivery. Once the sediment is channelized, the USLE must be adjusted with a sediment delivery factor, such as presented by Roehl, cited in some of my papers. I have used the RUSLE on estimating Erosion, but always had concerns about applying a P factor, which might be associated with a practice like adding mulch or straw. The Water Erosion Prediction Project (WEPP) requires more detail, but considers erosion and sediment delivery or movement in concentrated flow.

Werner (1981) gives an empirical formula P = 0.2 + 0.03 S (where S is the slope in %). Keep in mind that you would need a high resolution DEM to ensure the accuracy of P. If you use Google Earth, extract elevation and make your DEM at a high resolution, the empirical relation of Werner should provide a fair estimate of the P factor.

In this paper, we attempted to review the soil erosion studies conducted throughout the globe using Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE). We searched the SCI, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar database and various theses for this study. Though RUSLE is the most widely used model for estimation of soil erosion, the factors, namely rainfall erosivity, soil erodibility, slope length and steepness, cover management and conservation practice; vary greatly over different climatic zones, soil properties, slope, land cover and crop phase, respectively. Depending upon those variations, researchers have developed various sets of equation for different factors of RUSLE. These equations can be useful to map soil loss for many places on this planet.
