Project proposal is for subjects to review survey and give feedback regarding completing the survey. This is an 86 question survey given to subjects between 65 -90 years, in the second cycle of chemotherapy.
To all disciplines, what risks would be associated with this type of study?
86 questions may be a bit long for 65-90 years olds in 2nd cycle chemotherapy, particularly if there are scaled answers to each, or multiple subquestions. The respondents may get tired and irritated and give up or give unconsidered answers. Is it a pilot study of acceptability of design, or of likely response preparatory to a higer powered larger sample?
other dangers could be generation of anxiety and/or depression in respondents.
In order to answer this question it is important to clearly define which is the objective of this survey.
Is it looking after quality of life? or quality of treatment? or adverse events? or whatever.
Besides I agree with James: 86 questions for senior population seems to much.
If the objective of the survey is clearly defined, it is probably that the number of items can be reduced and be more focused.
The survey tool looks at quality of treatment. It has 86 items, in the future completion and return of this document could be tied to reimbursement similar to HCAPHS. The study looks at the feasibility of (outpatient) patients in their second cycle of treatment completing the survey. Besides fatigue and possible eye strain, what would be the risks associated with completing the survey?
No risks at all are involved. But may be you should administer the survey in two or three stages, to avoid a bias in the answers due to fatigue.
