For a couple of years, I've been wondering how to do a proper retained austenite measurement via XRD for a sheet steel sample. There is crystallographic texture in the steel for sure after cold rolling and subsequent annealing at an intercritical range. Currently I am using the method described in ASTM E975-95 with four peaks for both ferrite and austenite.

I have a feeling that there would be a better way that takes texture into account by either simulation or measurement. Any thoughts or experiences?
