I have chosen to use correlational research design in my paper where i'm trying to establish whether or not two variables in ration scale are correlated. Just needed to know what works with correlational designs?? Hypotheses or Research questions. I have been advised to use just one, not both and i'm not sure what to do. Research questions should be developed on the basis of what the study aims to answer. So if you have already identified the variable for correlation, a hypothesis might address the understanding of the researcher (through literature review) on the proposed direction of the correlation. Sweta Bhusan Thank you very much. Just came across a text to the effect that correlation studies do not have independent variables. All are dependent. Your opinion on that , kindly??
In a correlational study we cannot estimate the cause and effect relationship. You can just measure the direction of relationship. Therefore, the concept of dependent and independent variables is not applicable to such studies.
