We are looking for a basic meteorological system with data logger (temp., wind, rain, pressure etc.), solar-powered, suitable for mountain region (1000-2000 m a.s.l.), perhaps with possibility to add some air quality and soil moisture sensors. I would like to hear your experience on which ones you have used and how did it work for your research projects.

are you looking for an "all-in-one" system or are you also contemplating the possibility of combining different (separate) devices into a larger station? Is this supposed to be a fully automated station or will a human observer regularly (e.g., daily) tend to the instruments? Thinking about the required robustness of your system(s): What are roughly the climatic conditions up at your mountain site? Is this somewhere in eastern Europe?

Dear Julius, thank you for your reply. We are looking for a fully automated basic system with possibility to add further custom sensors. Stations will be situated in remote environment without a possibility of daily observations, although we will revisit the stations on a regular basis (every 2 weeks). They will be located in two valleys in Low Tatras in Slovakia. Lowest winter temperatures can reach minus 30 degrees, mean precipitation is about 1400 m, the maximum mean snow depth is 150 cm snow cover lasts roughly up to 200 days a year and altitude will be in both valleys about 1200 m (not on peaks). The wind speed on summit Chopok (2023) can reach 160 km/h.

thank you for this detailed description. OK, so a really robust and reliable, fully automated system would be required. Low temperatures far beyond 0 °C and especially the ~ 200 days of snow cover you mention may proove difficult. I will think about whether something suitable comes to mind. I have in the past given advice here and there on setting up individual instruments in challenging environments, however, I am not really an expert on "all-in-one" advanced station systems that you seem to require. But I'll think about it.
PS: Once your stations are up and running, share a photo with us! Would be very interesting to see how they are set up to withstand the harsh winter conditions in the beautiful Tatra mountains :-)
