Hello everyone. There are some databases which gives taxonomic names and authors of Plants.
Some of them:
The International Plant Names Index: http://www.ipni.org/ipni/plantnamesearchpage.do
The Plant List: http://www.theplantlist.org/
Euro+Med Plantbase: http://ww2.bgbm.org/EuroPlusMed/query.asp
My question is which of these databases most reliable? For example for Rosa damascena in Plant List database author name is given as Herrm. However, in International Plant Names Index it is given as Mill. Which one is correct? Are there any other plant database that gives correct information about taxa. Thank you.
Some other databases for checking taxonomy include Tropicos (http://tropicos.org/) and NatureServe (http://explorer.natureserve.org/). I'm not sure I can comment on which is most reliable, but I often cross-reference these and others (such as The Plant List) whenever I am unsure.
Dear Osman: None of the databases are fully reliable. The information in these databases definitely help us but we should always confirm these data ourselves. The Plant List gives the accepted names. We should not over rely on these information too.
Osman, I recommend the TNRS. It will search tropicos and other databases and help update species names. http://tnrs.iplantcollaborative.org
As far as i know, there are no perfect databases to show the complete botanical names, all the database are progressing, but it seems to me The plantlist.org is quite good.
You might also want to consider the ITIS database, www.itis.gov, which is often cited in scientific articles.

http://www.tela-botanica.org/page:eflore?langue=fr seems to be more reliable for European plants than The Plant List. More synonyms are taken into account and its is more quickly evolutive.
