Hi there, I work as a labtech and we are looking at purchasing a multi-channel pipette to dispense teaching liquids of varying volumes. The main use will be for dispensing large numbers of samples into 1.5 mL eppendorf vials. The options we currently have are to dispense each sample using a traditional manual pipette (single dose) or to use an electronic multi-dose pipette (10 doses max). As we often dispense several different samples, for 1200 students per week, I would like to at least consider alternatives and compare them with the above methods.
- Are multi channel pipettes suitable for this job? I have been told they are inaccurate, unreliable and that there will be 'issues' with tips.
- Are multi-channel pipettes 'tip specific' or can generic tips be used (cost and convenience).
- Has anyone used the variable-width pipettes which allow for use with different sized plates and tube racks? It seems like a fantastic feature but is it practical and efficient/effective?
- Would a manual or electronic version be the best option?
- Would 6, 8, or 12 channels be more reliable/accurate.
Basically, I would love to hear ANY advice re. how to accurately, quickly and efficiently dispense large numbers of samples into eppendorf tubes. Thank you in advance; Sam
