The prime cause of morbidity and mortality in diabetes is atherothrombotic disease (ATD). The chief causes of ATD, whether the patient is diabetic or not, are cigarette smoking, dyslipidemia (as defined by a ratio between LDL- and HDL-cholesterol), and hypertension. The very high blood sugars of uncontrolled diabetes do make a contribution, but treat the "Big Three" ATD risk factors and bring the 2 hr pp blood sugar below 200 mg/dl and your patient should be just fine.
Diabetes technology refers to the hardware, devices, and software used to help manage diabetes. This technology is widely diversified and is subject to continuous progress and development. The use of many diabetes technologies is individually based and requires very close medical supervision. The recently published paper by the American Diabetes Association perhaps describes the most comprehensive analyses of the subject in terms of diabetes technology types, standards, developments, and medical use.

Make the patients move and control their diet. All medications and technologies have limited effects only if patients don't optimize their life style. There is no "magic bullet".
