BER calculation every time I use the Rayleigh multipath-fading simulator in Simulink (v2012a MATLAB) it induces a BER of about 50% in my communications model. I have tried changing all of the parameters in the simulator, but nothing seems to help. Even if I reduce the numbers of paths to one, and increase the gain dramatically it still produces the same result. Does anyone have experience with this simulator?

I have never used that model, but suggest the following. First, does your code work with a Gaussian channel? To check, don't apply the channel filter and be sure it is working. Then try a one-path Rayleigh with the Doppler rate f_d set to zero. That is time-invariant fading. Try a couple of runs with that you will see some SNR loss, but you should have a BER better than 0.5. Then add some small f_d=.001/ts and some small tau=.1*ts and see if it works. You may be using f_d and tau that are too large...note that f_d is in Hz and ts is in sec. Doppler spreads should be small relative to the signal bandwidth, meaning small relative to 1/ts. Delay spread should be less that ts if you have no equalizer and more than ts if you do.

The analysis of Rayleigh fading, this should include the ratio S / N based on power levels obtained in the course, including temperature and humidity.
In my experience the fading is not easy to simulate because of the implicit, such as random phenomena: the nature of the terrain, the RF frequency, the transmission lines, as well as the behavior of antennas, among others.
It requires an analysis field, considering equipment specifications in operation. This to get an accurate idea especially if it is directed to the classroom.
