No. You described the effect of cross-reactivity, which is unwanted or wanted, depending on your application. However, in this context, the "more diverse range of epitopes" means that if you immunize a mouse with an antigen and you do not get good antibodies, the same antigen might deliver good antibodies in rabbit (this also applies for polyclonal antibodies). In one case, we found an improvement of a factor of > 1000 in affinity (polyclonal). This is the practical relevance. On the immunological level, it means that mice and rabbits have different immune systems.

It means that the respective immune system is able to make antibodies against a large set of antigens or epitopes. Simple immune systems may not be able to make antibodies against some structures or compounds.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no systematic study of this question. As long you do not define "better" apart of affinity, this question can not be answered anyway. Perhaps the following book would be a good start to understand the topic in more detail.
