I have a vinyl monomer which I purchased from Aldrich. Company has not mentioned that this monomer has an inhibitor or any further information about its condition of storage proving this substance is certainly inhibited.
In articles also, no researchers noted that any purification was performed except one.
As I want to use this monomer under radical polymerization reaction, I don't know should I purify my monomer before use or not?
Dear Susan, usually the vinyl monomers contain inhibitor, it can be eliminated by using alkaline solution (NaOH aqueous solution 5 or 10 wt%) or distillation. Chemistry industry, the purification is not recommended, usually they employ highest initiator amount for reducing the inhibitor effect. The inhibitor decrease the reaction rate, therefore it affects the reaction kinetic.
