I once thought exactly what you said as well. Then one of my senior supervisors said to not worry because my work (which also has his name on it) will still be easy to find if somebody searches for it on Pubmed or on the Internet.
It depends also on what your organisation or institution want exactly. Some places, I have heard, say that you must have an Impact Factor of "x" as a minimum.
