I'm looking for a protocol in order to prepare an aqueous extract from seaweeds, the protocol has to include steps for drying and preparing the powder used for the aqueous extraction. Thank you in advance.
Protocol for preparing aqueous extract from seaweeds involves first step drying weed samples, then soak in an solvent like ethanol or acetone. Leave the extract in a closed bottle for some days 4-5 days then filter to remove solid mass. Concentrate the filtrate by rotatory evaporation to get residue.
Take TLC and then chronograph the residual sample to get various fractions.Then concentrate the extract to get Individual compds. Check purity by TLC and identify by spectroscopic techniques IR, NMR. GCMS etc.
Simply follow the steps:
1. Collect seaweeds
2. Isolate your desired portion ( leaves or stem or both as you want)
3. Dry the selected part using sunlight as much as possible which will be helpful for grinding.
4. Blend these using of blending machine.
5. Dissolve powder to your expected solvent, such as, methanol, ethanol etc.
6. Use magnetic stirrer for uniform mixing almost 48 hours ( since there is no such typical machine, shaking machine is usually used for this)
7. Evaporate it through evaporator machine ( lack of this facility, generally manual process have been used in my lab)
8. Finally you are getting to your most fascinating and awaited product called seaweeds extract.
