For any type of cells, you can use a –80°C freezer for short-term storage, but for long-term storage, it is always advisable to store them in liquid nitrogen. The survival rate after freezing largely depends on the cell type, the freezing method used, and the duration of storage. If you do not have access to a liquid nitrogen facility, you can store the cells at –80°C; however, I recommend checking their viability by reviving a small batch after one or two months. For safe and reliable long-term storage, it is best to store them in liquid nitrogen.
