I'm trying to conjugate 7-amino 4-methylcoumarin (AMC) to nanoparticles with free carboxylate groups on the surface via amide bond formation, but the problem is that AMC is not soluble in water and the nanoparticles are not dispersible in DMF/DMSO!!

I've tried carrying out the reaction in water using EDC/NHS expecting atleast few molecules of AMC to bind to the nanoparticles but was unsuccessful. I even added some drops of DMSO to make the drug soluble but I couldn't see any trace of AMC on separating the particles.
