For spectrophotometric assays that measure absorbance in the visible light range (400-900 nm wavelengths) can be run in completely transparent polystyrene microplates. The clear color of the plastic should not interfere with measurements in the visible light range (400-900 nm wavelengths). The clear flat-bottom base allows for top-read or bottom-read measurements.

You can use adhesive plate seal which will prevent evaporation during incubation steps. You will have to remove the seal from the plate prior to reading. You can also use microplate lid as an alternative. But the lid will leave a small space between the lid and the wells, which can lead to evaporation if kept over longer periods of time. Lid should be removed prior to reading the plate to prevent damage to the plate reader.

SBS-standard 6-well to 384-well microplates and strip wells may be accommodated by the SpectraMax M2 and SpectraMax M2e. When reading optical density at wavelengths less than 340 nm, special UV-transparent, disposable, or quartz microplates with deep UV spectrum transmission must be utilized.

Not all manufacturers’ microplates are the same with regard to design, materials, or configuration. Temperature uniformity within the microplate may vary depending on the type of microplate used.
