How to solve the problem of poverty in the world? This is the major concern for world today.Even though lot of political thoughts are there, but ultimately failed to solve this problem. What is your opinion in this issue?
I do not understand why do you think that problem can not be solved! There must be some solutions or otherwise we must try to find out the best solutions. What do you think?
Poverty can be eliminated only if 100% real education is provided. It involves the responsibility of parents, teachers, and then the Govt. If the parents are igorant and poor, the situation continues for their heir..Adult literacy should be compulsory, atleast to know what is happening around. Govt. has to do take right measures on these..
The problem is with the definition of poverty and the real poor. In the absence of widely agreed and prudent methods to address the poverty definition and the identity, all the schemes go waste. We have seen in day to day life, all are contesting and grabbing the benefits meant for real poor. In a way, the free and subsidy concept derail the process of alleviating poverty. If we focus on education, employable skills and sufficient earning opportunities, we can overcome poverty.
Financial/economic literacy and incomes that provide some sort of discretionary spending. Being able to plan is meaningless if there is nothing to plan with.
Promoting self-employment and entrepreneurship also. Most of the programs in the US emphasize wage employment - and pretty much compel people into low wage jobs that have little or no chance of raising people out of poverty.
When we look at poverty we need to look in to two distinct types:One is income poverty arising out of lack of opportunities for the present generation, and the other is the structural poverty which is afflicted for generations. The first type of poverty could be solved easily. The second, which is widely prevalent in many under developed and developing countries is difficult to resolve. But it has to be rooted out. Otherwise what is the claim of economic progress?
We should not overlook the business of poverty. Many years ago I was reminded by a US senator, "Poverty is a billion dollar industry protected by some of the worlds largest companies - be careful".
Long term economic reforms should also be considered by the government and supported by the government. For some politicians, upon assuming the post, they would have to do another project instead of continuing what the previous one has established. Majority of the projects are short term in nature. For some countries, education is not a problem, majority of the people has access to education and are degree holders but do not get to have good jobs, some may get good jobs not related to their education. I agree with Jayachandran Rajarethinam, we may need to look into these types of poverty and provide reforms for both short term and long term.
The term 'poverty' tends to naturalize the condition of deprivation & marginalization by de-historicizing the situation produced that condition. 'Poverty' as understood by planning experts is something to do with the strength or weakness of the poor themselves. It is seen as a malfunctioning capability set. In India poverty is a status of earning less than Rs.26-32 a day. Poor are seen as the burden of an economy- just like sick & old are taken to be a 'burden' on household economy. This construct is wrong. What is the per-capita carbon emission by the 'poor'? What is the per-capita water consumption by them? what is their role in making an economy inflated? What is the proportion of their labour vis a vis their earnings? What is their saving capacity? What is the probability of them exploited compared to upper classes?.... The current model of ahistorisized capitalist economics have a bias towards the 'rich' because it sees them as 'healthy' & the rest 'sick'. Further, within the financial logic all those 'poor' are automatically 'indebted' to the 'rich' irrespective of the poor's direct borrowing from rich. That is how relatively poor work (labour, sell their property to, reproduce labour, educate their children for jobs from) for rich! The 'poor' pay their labour, assets, towards the indebtedness within which they are born! Without 'poor' the system will not work. Rich are 'chosen few' and poor are indebted to the rich! Within this economic & financial logic poverty will be re-created. Poverty is the creation of the economic paradigm currently in vogue. It is artificially created and promoted by systems of economics & finance. What is promoted as 'reform' by world agencies like world bank, IMF etc. would not 'eradicate' poverty. They want poor to compete among themselves in serving the rich. For them those lost in the competition are poor. The 'reality' of poverty construction is further complex than my explanation. One thing I am sure- it is a construct. There is nothing 'natural' about it. Economic models adopted caused the condition of poverty. Fundamentally poverty = unfreedom.
Poverty is a relative term and it depends on the context of its usage. it is used to describe the deprivation and marginalization of certain group of people in the social strata that lives well below the poverty line as defined by UN and other agencies concern with development. It is one of the yardstick for measuring development of any country
There is an opportunity to earn more & more property to indidual person, so he think more about himself not for society. The machanism & rules of an economy are in favior of this individualism, and the poverty is impact of it !!!
Poverty is a byproduct of growth. America over the past 60 years has developed an unquenchable thirst for cheap labor i.e. China. To maintain a cheap labor force one must find equilibrium, allowing segments of the labor force to improve their quality of life without causing instability in the labor force.
