Is there any study around on how well bacterial transcriptomes are preserved when they are taken out of the "in vivo" situation and kept on ice for varying amounts of time? In other words, how representative of the in vivo transcriptome is the RNA seq. result if I for example take bacteria out of a mouse cecum and instead of directly lysing them keep them on ice for 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours etc.
