Prepreg tapes used as fixtures in joints?

Does anybody have experience with using prepreg tapes for fixing joints (in engineering structures)? If yes, is it necessary to use robots for applying such tapes, or manual application of the tapes is enough for reproducbility. I would appreciate comments.
