For salt bath carburizing of low carbon (0.15-0.25%C) low alloy steels,NaCN is the main salt along with BaCO3 and some activator.Most of suppliers are supplying neutral salt with activator for barium carbonate.In order to achieve about 0.8 mm case depth and HRC 55 min . hardness you have to maintain 16-18% NaCN in your bath, that means add 82kg neutral salt+18 kg of sodium cynide pellets.I feel you already know the basic fundamentals of carburizing process however if need more guidance I shall be glad to share my personal experience in salt bath heat treat ment.

One more thing I want to ask you is “could you pls tell me the way to calculate remaining carbon content in carburizing salt after heat treating several batches?”

I reciprocate new year greetings to you.Dear Qamar Hayat normally carburizing salts are supplied by ICI, HARD ASTLE AND WAUDS and one south Korean supplier who supply analysis kit for titration to find out cynide concentration.All that you have to do is taking a sample from bath,crushing and grinding it and making a solution in water and titrate with standards.In case you donot find information about titration kit please feel free to tell me Ishall arrange.
