I am trying to prepare Na foil in Nitrogen glove box. Is it fine? Or is it has to be in Ar filled glove box. It's known that Na does not react with Nitrogen, but I have seen that most people prepare Na foil in Argon glove box.
Dear Ahmed K Al-Kamal, preparing a thin foil of sodium in a nitrogen-filled glove-box should be fine. I assume that you can just use a hammer to make the Na foil. Among the alkali metals, only lithium can be critical when handled under nitrogen. Especially finely divided lithium powder should be handled under argon, but sodium is OK.
