I encourage you to keep looking into about SuperCapacitors because I think they are going to play a key role in supercharger systems for electric vehicles otherwise we would spend much more time recharging our batteries.

I am not an expert on the subject of supercapacitors, but I have question. Can supercapacitors be charged or discharged using high currents? For example, a lead-acid battery can provide hundred of amperes of discharge current to a starter motor trying to turn over a cold internal combustion engine. Can a supercapacitor do this same type of deep discharge?

This is a hot topic, modern vehicles are blessed with both battery and super-capacitors in parallel. The energy and power density of super-capacitors are suitable to be used in EVs. Of course, they need more convoluted controlling method and several Converters (DC-DC).
Supercapacitors are used in electric buses as unique energy supply in Republic of China. Last year, during the summertime, one 12 meters Chinese bus was tested in the city of La Spezia, Italy. By a supercharger, in about 6 minutes the supercapacitors was sufficiently charged to accomplish a complete round of 16 km.
