Some years back I came across a Danish man, who was a specialist on North Korean graphic novels. I think he worked at some Danish university? I am mentioning it because "English graphic novels" is a slightly wide term. If you were to be more specific, i think your search would be simpler, "cold war graphic novels", "scifi graphic novels" or even novels sorted by their artistic techniques of their drawings.
